Tooth Fillings

A filling is a hard substance used to repair teeth by filling in holes that have been caused by damage to the tooth. While it cannot completely repair all the damage, a filling is necessary to replace the tooth structure when it becomes fractured, broken or damaged by tooth decay.

If you need a filling, Dr Nathans Dental Surgery provides tooth-coloured composite fillings and silver ceramic fillings. Our dentists will advise you whether a dental filling is suitable and whether a composite or ceramic filling is best.

To determine whether you need a filling, please make an appointment with one of our dentists.

Frequently Asked Questions

On average, you can expect a metal filling to last for about 15 years before needing to be replaced, but the length depends on various factors (e.g. grinding or clenching your teeth)

No, your dentist will numb the area using a numbing gel before injecting a local anaesthetic. You may feel a bit of a sting, but that’s a reaction from the local anaesthetic when it starts to block the nerve signals to stop the pain.
